Research Program

The research program includes following steps:

Onto-Builder

• The development of a procedure for constructing semantically founded data dictionaries
• The conception of data dictionary models
• The evaluation of suitable modeling languages (see Conceptual Modeling)
• The development of an interface for a symbol-based modeling language
• The collection and semantic analysis of terms and concepts in the field of clinical trials
• The development of criteria for separating generic and domain-specific concepts
• The definition of context-dependent concepts and processes and their relating attributes (e.g. qualities) and relations
• The conception and implementation of additional software tools for constructing and using data dictionaries in the field of medicine

Onco-Workstation

• The formalization and standardization of the assembly of oncological trial protocols and therapy flow sheets
• The standardization of terms used in protocols
• The use of new software technologies for the development of web-based software with distributed and synchronized data storage
• The establishment of a full quality management cycle for the acquisition of the content of the oncological trial protocols of the Deutsche Krebshilfe (German Cancer Aid)

SOP-Creator

• The definition of a typology of SOPs or standardized guidelines in the domain of clinical trials (e.g. clinical trial management, biometrics, information technology)
• The development of a software tool which supports the creation, administration and distribution of SOPs (SOP-Creator stage 1)
• The definition of target groups for SOPs as well as the the harmonization of the designations for these target groups
• The conception of methods for the semanitic structuring of standardized guidelines
• The extension of the SOP-Creator by adding further funcitonalities, e.g. different user views (SOP-Creator stage 2).
